In 1984, Pope John Paul II invited young people from around the world to come to Rome to observe the International Jubilee of Youth. It was such a phenomenal experience that he decided to invite young people every 2 or 3 years to what became known as World Youth Day. Pope Benedict XVI enthusiastically embraced this tradition at World Youth Day, 2005, in Germany, attended by 1.2 million people. Learn more about WYD at the official World Youth Day 2008 website.
In 2008, World Youth Day is being held in Sydney, Australia. Young Catholics from all over the world will gather for a week of catechesis, concerts, prayer and faith-sharing, culminating in a closing prayer vigil and mass with the Pope.
St. Margaret Mary WYD Pilgrims need your help to travel over 8,000 miles to “the land down under”.
